Cheng Tang

About Me

My name is Cheng Tang. This is my career website. Until early 2021, I was an applied scientist at AWS AI Labs. I obtained my PhD in Computer Science in 2018 from The George Washington University. During my PhD years, I spent time on classic research topics such as k-means clustering and PCA, as well as their modern variants empowered by SGD.

Research Interests

I am broadly interested in machine learning. I am currently especially interested in research at the intersection of ML theory and applications, including but not limited to:

• Domain adaptation, causal inference, and emerging learning paradigms such as meta learning, self learning, and multi-modal learning.
• LLM’s, including its training and evaluation, and ways to improve its reasoning and comprehension capabilities.
• Revisiting topics such as deep matrix factorization and low-rank methods.
• Time-series and its applications in finance
• Legal AI
